There are many sites that ask for username and password of Twitter to use their services, but we are not sure of where our login information is sent. FormFox addon helps you find the destination URL of the submit button in any form.
Lets see the direct application of this addon. Yesterday Mashable wrote about Twittercut scam that attracted many victims to submit their Twitter login info, which was used to send automated messages from their accounts. See what TwitterCut.com says
TwitterCut.com is the best place for you to grow your twitter network and gain a ton of followers. We recommend giving it a shot, it’s free and will help you get the followers you need. This system is brand new, so the quicker you get involved the better it will be, fill out the form below and get started right away…
The main reason why many people were attracted is because it claims to increase their followers.
TwitterCut.com had a decent login page like any other Twitter service which made many users to give their Twitter username and password, and the next effect, hundreds of automated tweets are sent from their Twitter account.
I used FormFox to find out the destination URL of the username and password form on TwitterCut webpage and this is what FormFox showed me.
Twitter login info is sent to viraltweets.php, i think this is where automated tweets(viral tweets) were created and sent to the victim’s Twitter accounts. While i was writing this post i found that Twittercut.com had another site at free web hosting http://twittercut.110mb.com/matt.php.
There are more of these site coming out every day. Be wise don’t give your login info to any web site unless the link is referred from respectable source.
