See my previous post FeedDemon 20 bookmarking hacks. This time I made a simple hack for FeedDemon which lets you save your favorite posts in a new paper styled PDF file. You might have known HP tabloid and Save Page as PDF services that provide you with this feature from your browser. But non of them give flexibility to generate PDF from other applications except browser, or may be there is a way but I am not familiar with it. Any way from now you can create PDFs of your favorite blog feeds directly from your feedreader(FeedDemon.)
This hack uses FiveFilters’ free RSS to PDF Newspaper service. The feed contents are neatly arranged in news paper style which is very much similar to HP’s Tabloid PDF, but FiveFilters adds feature that can get fetch full feed from short summary feeds with images in PDF format, which you don’t find in HP Tabloid.
FiveFilters’ free RSS to PDF Newspaper service also provides you with two bookmarklets. First one, FEED to PDF, to easily convert RSS or Atom feeds to PDF from your browser. Whenever you’re viewing a feed, click the bookmarklet to download that feed as PDF. Second one, WebPages or partial feeds to PDF. This bookmarklet attempts to extract full-text content from a webpage or feed and saves to PDF.
Drag these bookmarklets to your browser toolbar:
- Feed to PDF
- Create PDF or (WebPages or partial feeds to PDF)
Coming to the point, I named this FeedDemon hack as "Save Post as PDF". You can see this name in FeedDemon’s Send To menu after applying hack.
How to add Save Post as PDF hack to FeedDemon:
Download Save Post as PDF.xml file , place this file in C:\Program Files\FeedDemon\Data\SendTo folder, then start FeedDemon. To create PDF, open the post feed which you want to convert to PDF, click on the Send To button and select Save Post as PDF and download the PDF file.
